TEAM TARGET HOST READING EVENT

August 24, 2012

Sure, there’s nothing like bedtime reading with Mom or Dad, but students at were treated to special substitute readers during their first week back to school.

Just a few days before the Sonoma IndyCar races are slated to kick off on August 26, Target Chip Ganassi Racing IZOD IndyCar series champions Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon stopped by the San Francisco school for a special story time. Three hundred students gathered for a not-so-average assembly, as the racing champs held a surprise unveiling of a Target IndyCar (and showed offcool props like their fire suits) before reading one of their favorite children’s books to students.

“Getting a chance to take a break from the racetrack and read to the kids is incredibly rewarding,” said Dario.

“I love reading to my daughters, and loved reading to the Sanchez students too,” said Scott. “Reading is such a pivotal part of a child’s education and we’re honored and happy to support students any way we can.”

After taking class photos with the drivers and getting a chance to ask questions, students were treated to backpacks full of school supplies. Below, peruse a few pics from the event.
