8.             (12) Kyle Larson, No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS

Details of the Day

  • Larson was the highest finishing Rookie of the Year candidate
  • With their respective finishes, Larson moves to eighth in the point standings, and McMurray moves to 20th
  • Today’s Quicken Loans was Larson’s first NSCS race at MIS

Kyle Larson, No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS: “I didn't think you could pass this many cars at Michigan.  We just fought hard all day long.  I spun in the beginning, and hate it for whoever I collected.  Team Target fought back into the top-five, and we had a great Target Chevy.  There late in the race, I was penalized for speeding on pit road trying to get around some traffic, which I know hurt us several positions.  Shine, my crew chief, did a great job calling the shots on pit road. I just didn’t execute driving on pit road.  All-in-all a good day. Another top-10 for us.  I can’t say enough about this Target team and everybody at Target, too, for letting me come out here and race in the Sprint Cup Series. I’m having a blast so far.  Back in my home-state next week, so we’ll fight hard for another good finish at Sonoma.”

Jamie McMurray, No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet SS: “We had a really strong McDonald's Chevy today.  I was nervous on the next to last green flag stretch. I got into the fence a little bit and thought I damaged the car. On the final stop the guys told me we were good to go. We just didn't cycle out on fuel strategy in the end. We had a good points day.”
