FORT WORTH, Texas (June 6, 2014) - Chip Ganassi Racing drivers Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Ryan Briscoe and Charlie Kimball put the cherry on top of Thursday evening's "Chefs in the Fast Lane presented by the City of Roanoke: The Unique Dining Capital of Texas" by highlighting the charity fundraiser with a spirited dessert decorating contest at the Lone Star Condominiums at Texas Motor Speedway.
The competition was all about speed as each driver was given a plain cupcake to decorate with a tube of icing and a target bulls-eye made of fondant, followed by the task of assembling a candy goody bag and culminating with successfully dipping a piece of fruit in a chocolate fountain.
Kanaan completed all three tasks in less than a minute as the 2013 Indy 500 winner earned the second wreath of his career, this one being a candy one provided by Hey Sugar Candy Store of Roanoke.
"As drivers we are all very competitive obviously, and I saw my three teammates start eyeing the Target cupcakes before they dropped the green flag, so I knew this was going to be a serious competition," joked Kanaan. "It was a fun event and anytime you can go home with a wreath you know you did well!"
The drivers, through a partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing and Target, also took part in a Q&A session and were part of an evening of food and entertainment that raised $22,760 for Speedway Children's Charities-Texas Chapter. Team sponsor Target also donated six $100 gift cards to the raffle in their support of the event.
More than 100 attendees visited some of the premier condominiums in Lone Star Tower and sampled food from some of the top eateries in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex including Dee Lincoln Steak and Burger Bar, Levy Restaurants, The Classic Café, The Fort Worth Club and FnG Eats.
Dee Lincoln Steak and Burger Bar won the food competition as voted on by the attendees and chef Marcos Rodriguez was presented with the annual trophy, which will be displayed in their restaurant for the next year.
The fundraiser was held in conjunction with Saturday night's Verizon IndyCar Series Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. Tickets are available for the Firestone 600 (7:30 p.m. CT start) by visiting www.texasmotorspeedway.com or by calling the Texas Motor Speedway ticket office at (817) 215-8500.
