I BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT
Martinsville Success: Jamie McMurray captured his one and only NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) victory on the .526-mile Martinsville Speedway. McMurray has only made two starts at Martinsville in the NCWTS and completed 100% of the laps of competition leading 27 laps around the paperclip-shaped track. McMurray recently joked at a Martinsville media event that, the year after his victory, the track finally began giving away the coveted Grandfather Clock trophies for that series. A prize that he will also seek in this weekend Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500.
TWEETS OF THE WEEK
@KyleLarsonRacin: “Can we just go back to single car qualifying for super speedways?”
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team
Talladega Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) teams made their second trip of the 2014 season to the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway. It is the track where Jamie McMurray made his first career NSCS start (2002) and the site of his last NSCS victory (2013). After starting the GEICO 400 from the 31st position McMurray showed he had a strong car to contend, before being involved in the race’s first caution, and driving his damaged Cessna Chevy SS to a 35th place result.
McMurray at Martinsville: Jamie McMurray has made 23 previous at Martinsville Speedway where he has compiled 12 top-10’s, and one top-five. He has completed 10,774 of 11,534 (93.4%) laps, leading 117 of those. McMurray also has an average start of 14.6 and average finish of 17.3.
Golden Arches and Monopoly: The No. 1 Chevy SS will sport the McDonald’s livery on the car this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Fans won’t have to go hungry on the way to the track. There are several locations within 10 miles of Martinsville Speedway, including the closest location just 1.7-miles away at 2756 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, VA 24112. Stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner and play the Monopoly game at McDonald’s for your chance to win food and prizes. Hurry, as the in-store game ends Oct. 27, 2014.
Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team
Talladega Recap: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) was in Alabama this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway for the final race of the second round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Larson looked good during practice and avoided any major on-track incidents as he raced from a 42nd place start to a 17th place finish.
Larson at Martinsville: Martinsville is one of the few tracks on the NASCAR circuit at which Larson had raced in a NSCS car before this season. Larson made his second ever NSCS start in the No. 51 Target Chevy during last fall’s race at Martinsville, but an overheating issue ended his day after 160 laps. Larson second start at Martinsville came earlier this season. He finished that race two laps down in 27th place. Looking to improve upon his performance at Martinsville, he recently tested the No. 42 Target Chevy at the track.
