TEAM TARGET FINISHES 20TH AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
FORT WORTH (Nov. 3, 2013) – The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series headed to the “Lone Star” State for 334-laps of racing action at Texas Motor Speedway. Juan Pablo Montoya and Team Target battled with handling early on and then a shredded tire with less than a 100 laps to go, to finish out the day in 20th position.
As the season quickly comes to a close, the battle out on the race track heats up as everyone is vying for a season-ending win. Team Target lined-up 16th on the starting grid Sunday afternoon and quickly realized the handling was off on the short runs. The team made multiple stops to help get the handling under control. Long green flag runs consumed the race and Montoya fought to maintain track position. With less than 100 laps to go, the Target Chevy visited pit road unexpectedly as Montoya reported a flat tire. The tire was changed and the team battled it out until the end. Team Target would be credited with a 20th place finish when the checkered flag waved.
"The team did a great job keeping up with the changing track conditions today but we just couldn’t catch a break,” Montoya remarked. “The long green flag runs hurt us when we needed to make adjustments early on and then a tire shredded on us and I had to make an unscheduled stop. We had a top-10 Target Chevy but were unlucky today.”
Notes:
- The race at Texas Motor Speedway experienced just five caution flags for 26 laps and saw 28 lead changes among 10 different drivers
- Montoya remains 22nd in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings
Two races remain in the NSCS season. The AdvoCare 500 is up next on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3:00 pm ET. The race will air live on ESPN and radio stations affiliated with MRN.
