Matt Kenseth

Biography

Hailing from the small town of Cambridge, Wis., Matt Kenseth is one of the most decorated NASCAR drivers of his generation. During his 21-year NASCAR Cup Series career, Kenseth won 39 times at the sports highest level including NASCAR’s most prestigious event, the Daytona 500, twice. Kenseth dominated the 2003 season, leading the standings for 34 consecutive weeks before winning the NASCAR Cup Series championship.

Driving for car owner Jack Roush, Kenseth took NASCAR’s top division by storm in 2000, winning one of the sport’s crown jewels, the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, in addition to the Rookie of the Year Award, becoming the first rookie to hold both honors at the same time. Later, in 2009, when Kenseth scored his first Dayton 500 victory, he became only the fifth driver in NASCAR history to win a Cup Series Championship, Rookie of the Year honors and the Daytona 500 -- joining Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, David Pearson, and Richard Petty.

After wheeling the No. 17 Ford for 13 seasons with Roush, Kenseth joined Joe Gibbs Racing in 2013 to drive the No. 20 Toyota, putting together one of his best seasons. Kenseth won a series-best seven races, including the prestigious Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. During his five seasons with Gibbs, Kenseth amassed 15 victories, including winning the second-to-last race of his final full-time season at Phoenix in November of 2017.

Kenseth returned to Roush Fenway Racing on a part-time basis in 2018 in the No. 6 Ford to help assess the team’s performance. During his 15-race stint, Kenseth won the pole for the NASCAR All-Star Race, before closing out his Cup career with a seventh and sixth-place finish at Phoenix and Homestead respectively.

Kenseth’s hall of fame resume also includes an International Race of Champions (IROC) title and a NASCAR All-Star Race victory, both in 2004. In addition to his impressive Cup Series stats, Kenseth also scored 29 wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
