Kyle Larson

Biography

Kyle Larson is an American race car driver, currently competing full-time in NASCAR’s highest division, the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS), racing the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR). The Elk Grove, CA native has four consecutive appearances in the NCS playoffs, finishing inside the top-10 in each season. Larson scored a career-best sixth-place finish in the 2019 points standings, highlighted by a dominant playoff win at Dover International Speedway to secure a spot in the semifinal round.

A versatile driver known for his proficiency in a variety of cars, Larson began racing karts on dirt in 1999 when he was just seven. After finding success in outlaw karts at a young age, Larson quickly graduated to larger cars with more horsepower, continuing to win races on dirt in open-wheel cars. Having proven himself a formidable driver on dirt tracks across California and the West Coast, Larson took his talents to the Midwest in 2010 to race against some of the toughest drivers in the country.

Not one to miss an opportunity, Larson broke into the national spotlight in 2011 during his first year of racing on the national open-wheel circuit. He amassed 22 feature wins in the World of Outlaws, American Sprint Car Series and all three USAC National Divisions. Most notably, he swept the prestigious 4-Crown Nationals, becoming only the second driver ever to win in the Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget car at Eldora Speedway.

After a quick introduction to stock car racing on pavement, which began in 2012, Larson embarked on his rookie season in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2014, driving the No. 42 Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing. Coming off of a K&N East championship in 2012, and rookie of the year honors in both K&N and the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Larson raced to 17 top-10 finishes in 2014 and handily won rookie of the year honors in the Cup series in only his third year racing stock cars.

Always competitive, Larson earned his first Cup Series win at Michigan in August of 2016, followed by a breakout season in 2017, winning four races and earning three pole awards. In over 200 Cup Series starts, Larson has a total of six wins, eight pole awards, 55 top-five and 98 top-10 finishes. Larson also has one win in the prestigious All-Star Race, scoring the victory in 2019 after racing his way into the main event at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Aside from NASCAR, Larson has some sports car racing experience, participating in the Rolex 24 at Daytona three times; winning the race in 2015.

Larson and his wife, Katelyn, are the parents to two children – Owen and Audrey. Larson also continues to race extensively on dirt when time permits and owns a World of Outlaws sprint car team, based out of Mooresville, NC. When he’s not with his family or racing, Larson is an avid golfer.
