Biography


Charlie Kimball completed his fourth Verizon IndyCar Series season in the No. 83 NovoLog FlexPen Chevrolet in 2014.  He returns to Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing in 2015 for his fifth season looking to continue to build upon last year’s campaign. 

In 2014, Kimball finished the Verizon IndyCar Series points race in 14th position. During his fourth season with Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing, Kimball’s best finish came in the second leg of the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit at Belle Isle, where he scored a podium-finish of third place. Kimball made his debut in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2013 at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, where he was a member of winning team alongside IMSA’s all-time winningest driver Scott Pruett.

Kimball was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2007, making him the first licensed driver with diabetes and first licensed driver to qualify for and complete the Indianapolis 500 in the history of INDYCAR.

Career Highlights


2014 Earned 10 top-10 finishes (Barber, Indy GP, Belle Isle 1 & 2, TMS, Houston, Iowa, Toronto 1 & 2, and Mid-Ohio) and had one podium finish (Belle Isle). Earned Tag Heuer's "Don't Crack Under Pressure" Award for advancing the most cumulative positions during the season

2013 Earned first career IndyCar victory at Mid-Ohio after starting fifth. Posted 10 top-ten finishes (Birmingham, Sao Paulo, Indianapolis, Belle Isle, Pocono, Toronto, Mid-Ohio, Baltimore, Houston, and Fontana) and had two podiums (Pocono and Mid-Ohio)

2012 Captured his first career IndyCar podium, finishing 2nd in Toronto after starting 13th. Posted six top-ten finishes (2nd in Toronto, 8th in Brazil, Indianapolis and Detroit, 9th in St. Petersburg) 

2011 Made IZOD IndyCar Series career debut with Chip Ganassi Racing 

2010 Finished 4th in the Firestone Indy Lights championship

2009 Finished 10th as a rookie the Firestone Indy Lights Series 

2008 Finished 2nd in his first race with diabetes in Formula 3 Euroseries opening round 

2007 Competed in 12 event of the World Series by Renault, but missed final races due to Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis

2006 Finished 11th in the F3 Euroseries
