Charlie Kimball

Biography

Charlie Kimball completed his third IndyCar Series season in the No. 83 NovoLog FlexPen entry in 2013. He returns to Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing in 2014 for his fourth season looking to continue to build upon last year’s campaign that saw him score a career-best 10 top-10 finishes and earn his first career win at Mid-Ohio. Adding to Kimball’s 2013 accomplishments, the California-native also scored a win in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in his first-ever start in sports car racing.

In 2013, Kimball finished the IndyCar Series points race in ninth position. During the season, his best qualifying effort came at the MAVTV 500 at Fontana, where he started fourth. Kimball’s best finish came at Mid-Ohio where he crossed the line first, earning the first victory of his career. The Novo Nordisk driver had an average start of 12.8, with an average finish of 10.9. He finished the season leading 80 laps and two podiums.

Kimball was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2007, making him the first licensed driver with diabetes and first licensed driver to qualify for and complete the Indianapolis 500 in the history of INDYCAR.
